Amphitheatre Trois-Rivieres

2010

Drawing inspiration from the world of log driving, our proposal for the new Trois-Rivières amphitheatre and adjacent public square plays to the natural qualities and grandeur of this site at the confluence of the Saint-MauriceRiver and the St. Lawrence River. The strength of the concept lies in the pervasive use of linear elements; huge thrusting pieces of wood reach out to form a sculpture. The wood, grafted with glass and metal forms, flanks the audience, offering protection and openness while effectively controlling the dissipation of sound into the surrounding area. The immense roof unifies the tiered seating and slides to stretch over the grassy area, bringing the entire crowd under its protective wing.
