CHUM AND CRCHUM

Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal, 2003 to 2006

The Université de Montréal Hospital Center (known as the CHUM) is a major complex of 275,000 m2 grouping the Saint-Luc, Notre-Dame and Hôtel-Dieu campuses. The preparatory studies and the pre-concept evaluated the feasibility of building the future 9,175 m² CHUM on the site of 1000 Saint-Denis Street, which is currently being occupied by the Saint-Luc Hospital. Several options were investigated between 2003 and 2007 in order to confirm the selection of the site and maintain a scale that would fit the context, all the while insuring a functional organisation of hospital and research spaces. The presence of patrimonial edifices and the highway under the site of the ResearchCenter required working with city authorities and studying applicable regulations.
