Constance-Lethbridge Rehab Centre

Montreal, 2008

Understanding the client’s needs and using the constraints to drive the concepts formed the basis of the approach to this renovation project. To facilitate the mobility and orientation of users – whose motor skills and spatial understanding are often diminished – various materials and vivid colours were used as reference points. Creating an avenue without obstacles was achieved by establishing a circulation hierarchy, clear way-finding, and the removal of all architectural barriers. Various elements of built-in furniture respond to different scenarios, offering the user a choice of several resting and meeting places. This project received the Prix Intérieurs / Ferdie 2009 Awards, Healthcare Facilities Category.
