University of Montréal Assembly Room

University of Montreal, Montreal, 2012

The university assembly unites various bodies for the planning and development of the future. The existing auditorium-type room presented a face-to-face configuration that did not represent the collegial spirit of today. The proposed “U” configuration blurs the line between the members and the presenter, multiplying the number of visual connections and reinforcing the group mentality.

Playing with an apparent yet broken symmetry, the configuration breaks down hierarchies and attenuates the certainty of each individual party. Without ostentation, the room is fully integrated with technological equipment relevant in today’s universities. The bursting ceiling catches the eye; allowing the dreamers to search for a pattern, and ready to fall on the heads of those who make bad decisions!
